The Quinta de S. Thiago sits elegantly and majestically on the lower slopes of the Sintra hills. Through the centuries, Sintra, beloved of artists and writers, has been the home of Royalty and aristocracy. Covered with magnificent trees and gardens, there are many beaches within easy reach. The lighthouse of Cabo da Roca with its dramatic cliffs marks the most westerly point of Europe.

Secluded in its own private grounds, with huge eucalyptus and umbrella pine trees, the Quinta de S. Thiago is conveniently situated near many celebrated monuments, palaces, the Moorish and Pena Castles, etc. Commanding lovely views and all-day-long sunshine, this early XVI century house was once inhabited by monks.

Though entirely modernised, it keeps its original character, with chapel, old tiles, antiques, well stocked library, and music room available for dancing, etc.

S. Thiago has its own large swimming-pool and tennis court with riding and golf courses nearby. Many excursions can be made to sights of interest in the surrounding area.

Because S. Thiago has only eight double rooms, all with own bathrooms, it is advisable to book in advance. Congenial candle-lit dinner parties are available if desired, as well as snacks, teas, etc.

A private home atmosphere, our guests are considered and treated as friends, not just clients. Thus we give them individual attention such as counselling them on their daily sightseeing tours and programs. Invariably guests write warmly about our hospitality. Quoting one of our many famous guests, the actor Burt Lancaster:
