The Hotel became most known, after the ten days
visit of Lord George Byron in 1809, but other famous people stayed in
Lawrence's, such as William Beckford, Eça de Queiros, Camilo
Castelo Branco, Alexandre Herculano, and many others, both from the
political as well as from the art scene. In 1850 Mr. Duran got possession of the Hotel and
named it "Hospedaria Inglesa". |
