We are the only moving company in Portugal using the salesmate International surveying system totally portable and battery operated. It electronically records the survey, calculates the volume and item counts by transportation mode and prints a report in four languages - English, French, German and Spanish - right in your residence. This new technology gives you more accurate survey details and eliminates maths and errors.

The client contacts the sales coordinator and agrees a date and time for inspection of household effects. The L. Rettenmayer sales executive will then visit the employee’s residence and:

• Survey the contents to determine the volume of effects to be moved and explain packing procedures and documentation for customs clearance and insurance.
• Make arrangements with the employee (or spouse) for the movement of all effects for which any special conditions may apply.
• Identify any requirements to remove windows or bannisters and note parking access for the vehicle.
• Provide an estimate of the time that will be required to pack the effects.
• Provide a moving schedule.

L. Rettenmayer will ensure through periodic onsite visits that our packing standards are maintained.

Containers or vehicles are clean, undamaged and leakproof and that all necessary webbing and bulkhead equipment is available.

Polished, painted or gilded surfaces and upholstered furniture to be blanket wrapped in special paper blankets.

Glass associated with furniture to be taped with maskingtape and then wrapped in blankets. The glass shall be further protected with cardboard panel fixed in position with tape and additional cushioning to prevent marking to the surrounding areas. The items to be marked clearly ‘’Glass With Care’’.

Marble, mirrors, sheets of glass and pieces of furniture to be individually protected from abrasion by wrapping and cushioning and packed into tailormade crates constructed of timber.

China and glassware to be wrapped in paper tissue, bubble wrapped sealed with tape, the package to be then packed into a double-walled fluted carton and the parcel segregated by cushioning as required.

Hanging clothes to be packed into hanging wardrobe cartons and other clothes neatly folded and packed into cartons.

The works of long cased clocks shall be removed, suitably padded to protect against shock and packed into a carton. The pendulums shall be taped to a piece of wood and the casing wrapped in paper blankets.

Chandeliers shall be given special attention by suspending in cartons or crates and well protected.

Removal of windows and bannisters and any lifting gear which may be required during removal shall be arranged by L. Rettenmayer at an additional cost.

Each item will be identified with a number afixed to the package and cross referred to a copy of the inventory. A note of any items of furniture which are scratched or damaged prior to shipment, or any other relevant comments regarding condition will also be included on the inventory.

The inventory will be signed by the employee upon completion of the packing and a copy retained by them.

Movement by Sea
When the volume warrants the use of shipping line container, L. Rettenmayer will position the container at the employee’s residence subject to accessability on the final day of packing or as close as is practicable. The container will be loaded to provide an avenly balanced load and prevent shifting of goods in transit. Timber bulkheads will be fitted where necessary. Where shipment is to be handled in liftvans, these will be positioned at residence for loading (all liftvans will be waterproof lined, plasticbanded and stenciled).

All packed liftvans will be loaded into containers at Rettenmayer’s warehouse utilising loading ramps and equipment specifically designed for such operations.

When loaded the container will be sealed and the seal number entered on the inventory.

L. Rettenmayer will advise its destination agent, the details of the shipment, including the bill of lading number and give instructions as to whether shipment will be delivered direct or into storage.

L. Rettenmayer will liaise with the employee and its agent to expedite the movement of household effects to the employee’s residence.

Movement by Air
Consignments by air receive the same packing, wrapping and crating as the sea consignments.

Each air shipment is packed into specially approved IATA cartons.

L. Rettenmayer will advise its destination agent details of the consignment, including AirWaybill details.

Movement by Road
Consignments by road receive the same packing, wrapping and crating as the sea consignments.

Where warranted the road vehicle will be placed at residence, loaded, sealed and will travel directly to destination.

All necessary documentation required for entry into destination country will be informed to the customer.

Delivery to Final Destination
Delivery will include all unpacking and removal of cartons and packing materials.

Storage
During the pre-move survey, L. Rettenmayer will identify all items for storage and will advise if storage is required by employee.

All household effects for storage will be identified with a number cross referring them to inventory.

All items for storage will be fully export wrapped and stored in pallet boxes to fully protect from dust and soiling. All storage will be in dry conditions protected from extremes of temperature.

Works of art, antiques and private museum pieces have all been handled successfully by L. Rettenmayer, Lda. This very specialized field of transportation requires local technical expertise, proper facilities and a network of foreign agents skilled in the trade.

Long Term Storage
L. Rettenmayer, Lda. offers fully containerized long term storage facilities at all our locations - these warehousing facilities are monitored by electronic security surveillance ensuring maximum protection for all client’s shipments whilst in our care. Regular rodent and insect control procedures are carried out by professionals to eliminate any risk of infestation.

High Value Items
Our professional packing staff are trained and experienced in preparing artworks, sculptures and antique for shipments. Special crating is designed and constructed to suit each individual high value item.

Motor Vehicle
Co-ordination of vehicle transporters is arranged by L. Rettenmayer, Lda. to receive all motor vehicles in preparation for shipment. Containerised shipping is available to most world wide destinations and specific boxes are built within containers when vehicles are shipped with household effects.

Pet Transport
Specialized pet transport is available to virtually all international destination and throughout all procedures are undertaken by professionals, thus ensuring a minimum anxiety to the animals.

Insurance
